Everything you need to know about ACRYLIC NAILS
My junior year of high school I met a girl who would become my best friend, Mack. She was so gorgeous and popular. One day she came to school with these squared off, bright pink nails. I fell in looooove and the next day she and I went and got mine done. The process to get them on takes about an hour and a half for your first full set and (if I remember correctly) it cost me $45 after the tip. They have to cut and file your nails down, sand your nails, place the acrylic on, cut the acrylic, put multiple layers of more acrylic on the nail, sand the acrylic down, file, paint and then you're done! I can't even lie... I LOVE ACRYLIC NAILS. There is absolutely 0 maintenance (except getting them filled everything 3 weeks). You can wake up, put on a black t-shirt and jeans and your outfit will still look so put together because your nails look so good. ALTHOUGH, there are multiple downsides to always having those long, perfect nails.
1. It's very hard to do really simple things i.e put on makeup, put on tiny necklaces, pick change up off the floor, pick anything up, (if you play sports) it feels really weird for the first few days andtyping on a keyboard. But HEY at least your nails look great...
2. If you "remove" them at home it is the most painful experience ever. I'd go through short periods where I'd convince myself I didn't want acrylics and instead of going to the nail place and getting them removed I'd RIP. THEM. OFF. Let me just tell you, that hurts so bad. So so so so so so so so so so bad. I would always recommend going back to the salon to get them removed.
3. They KILL your existing nails. I didn't realize this at first but when you get the acrylic nails put on they sand down your existing nails so your nails are super weak and really thin. It takes about 2 months for my nails to grow back and be healthy again but that is a long time to wait.
SO, in conclusion, I'd say just get a manicure. Don't get acrylics unless you're absolutely in love. It's a lot of money, time and healing time afterward.
